Resident Information
 If
you are already a resident of the Village of Owego, you know
that it isn’t very large. You can easily walk or bike your
way anywhere rather quickly. It’s part of the Village’s
charm that it seems like a stage set, especially in the
downtown commercial district. The people you see on a daily
basis in the shops and restaurants and banks become part of
your own private play. And you get to be one of the valued
players, too.
There are probably some things about the Village that
make you a little cranky - like taxes or that big hole on
Front Street where there used to be a lovely shop before a
fire burned it down in 2000. The best way to do something
about the things that annoy you and to make positive changes
is to become involved. Because we are a small municipality,
it’s easy to do.
- Register to vote if you’re over 18.
Go to
the Board of Elections at 56 Main Street (telephone
687-8261) and just do it.
- Attend Village Board Meetings on
the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 7 P.M.. at 20 Elm
Street.

- Get the Village Newsletter. Call the Village offices (607-687-1710) and get on
their newsletter list so you know “what’s up”.
- Join one of
the many clubs and organizations that make our Village so
much fun to live in.
- Shop in the Village and eat in its
restaurants and you can help our economy.
We’re all in this together. The more active players, the
better the play.

eligible for renovation, restoration or new construction
assistance from the Historic Preservation Commission.
